Normally, I’m not a Jim Carrey fan. I have always enjoyed Tea Leoni’s work though. “Fun with Dick and Jane” can be categorized as a very fun film to watch. A surprise to me even though the clips looked good. It was even better than I thought it might be.
Dick (Carrey) and Jane (Leoni) are upper middle class suburbanites who seemingly have it all. A great house, good kid, and love were all they needed. Unfortunately, a company scandal at Dick’s work needed a scapegoat and he was it. Suddenly, the family is thrown into chaos. Not only jobless and depressed, they find themselves in deep debt after house prices in the area plummet.
Of course, this being a comedy, it is only the beginning of the problems. The couple decided that a life of crime does pay and become robbers, although not very good ones. When this doesn’t pay off as well as they had hoped, revenge becomes their next plan of action.
Both Carrey and Leoni are excellent in this movie, as is Alec Baldwin as Jack McCallister, the deceitful rich old boy who brings the company down, making millions from it. There are some great lines in this movie and a fun ending. I would say this is worth a first weekend see.
